WHO Regional Committee Meeting for the Western Pacific Region
The Ministry of Health is committed to the development of a skilled and quality health workforce. The matter was emphasised by the Minister of Health during the 75th WHO Regional Committee Meeting for the Western Pacific Region. The meeting is held from 21st until 25th of October in Manila, the Republic of the Philippines. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar welcomed the issue of climate resilience and sustainability in the five-year strategy of the World Health Organisation, WHO Western Pacific region. Earlier, in a speech during the Opening of the Meeting, Yang Berhormat, as the chairman of the 74th Regional Committee Meeting for the Western Pacific Region, reported the achievements throughout the period of chairing the committee which includes the approval of the Asia Pacific Health Security Action Framework. The framework practices a multilateral approach and brings together countries, partners and stakeholders in collective action to strengthen capacity to faci
litate the implementation of the International Health Regulations.
At the meeting, the Minister of Health recommended that the WHO continue cooperation and technical assistance to member countries. Yang Berhormat also welcomed the issue of climate resilience and sustainability in the WHO five-year strategy for the western pacific region. The annual meeting also discussed technical issues that were highlighted including examining the resilience of health care facilities to climate change, exploring transformative primary health care and methods in strengthening oral health.
The annual meeting discusses current health issues, policies, programmes and future directions of the WHO Western Pacific Region. The Minister of Health also held bilateral meetings with Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Doctor Haji Dzulkefly Ahmad, Minister Health of Malaysia and Yang Berhormat Doctor Teodoro Herbosa, Secretary of Health of the Republic of the Philippines to discuss and exchange views on the development of the health sector in t
heir respective countries as well as the development of the implementation of cooperation in the field of health between the two countries.
