Visayas Command Deploys Over 1,000 Personnel for Sinulog Festival Security
CEBU CITY – In preparation for the Fiesta Sen~or and Sinulog Festival, the Visayas Command (Viscom) has deployed a significant security contingent comprising soldiers, reservists, and Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) cadets. The deployment, which spans from January 11 to 21, is aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the expected large number of devotees and pilgrims attending the religious festivities.
According to Philippines News Agency, Viscom chief, the total number of personnel deployed includes 865 members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, with 350 from the Army, 382 from the Navy, and 133 from the Air Force. These forces are a mix of regular and reserve units. Additionally, 400 ROTC cadets will also be participating in the security efforts. The primary focus of these personnel will be to secure key events such as the penitential walk on January 18, Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Dakbayan on January 13, Sinulog sa Lalawigan on January 14, the fluvial procession on Mactan Channel, the solemn foot procession of the image of the Senor Sto. Nino on January 20, and the Sinulog Grand Parade at the South Road Properties on January 21.
Viscom has also established a quick reaction force and a Command Operations Center to closely monitor the events. This setup is designed to ensure coordinated and timely responses to any eventualities. Arevalo emphasized that while no specific threats to the festivity have been identified, vigilance and heightened security measures are being implemented. The aim is to prevent any incidents that may disrupt the celebration or cause fear among the participants.
