Three Locals Sentenced for Excise Offences in Kuala Belait.
Kuala belait: Three locals were brought before the Kuala Belait Magistrate’s Court for offences under the Excise Order 2006.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Mohammad Norizzuman Khan Bin Dirman, aged 21, was found guilty of possessing 16 cartons, 3 packets, and 19 sticks of cigarettes of various brands without a valid permit. He was arrested by Customs officers from the Belait Branch Operations Unit at the parking area of Kedai Lumut in Kuala Belait on 8th August 2024. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a fine of $13,500 or 13 months imprisonment in default.
In a related case, Didi Nur Nabilah Binti Muhammad Kanchang, aged 44, was found guilty of possessing 44 vape pod units, 1 vape mod unit, and 23 bottles of vape juice of various brands. The accused pleaded guilty and received a sentence of a $38,500 fine or 14 months imprisonment in default.
Mazlan Bin Haji Mohd Yassin, 47 years old, was implicated for abetting, assisting, and accompanying Didi Nur Nabilah in the sale and purchase of
vape products. He also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a fine of $38,500 or 14 months imprisonment in default. The arrests were made by Kuala Belait customs officers at a house in the Landless Indigenous Citizens’ Housing Scheme of Kampung Mumong ‘A’ area on 6th April 2024. All contraband items were confiscated for destruction.
