TESDA Initiates TVET Industry Board to Enhance Graduate Employability

MANILA — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) announced on Friday its collaboration with various sectors to establish a TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) Industry Board aimed at enhancing training and improving the employability of its graduates.

According to Philippines News Agency, the creation of the TVET Industry Board is a strategic move to address the skills mismatch in key growth sectors such as construction, agriculture, tourism, health services, information and communications technology, and manufacturing. Dillera emphasized the initiative during a televised briefing, noting that the collaboration will involve the private sector, academic institutions, and government agencies.

The proposed board will include industry stakeholders to ensure the training programs meet actual market needs. Academic institutions are tasked with developing the educational modules, while government agencies will contribute insights on sector demands. “There were instances when the products of academic institutions do not match the industry requirement. So we would involve the industry so they could tell their needs and be involved in the development of (module) contents,” Dillera explained.

Dillera also highlighted specific areas of focus, such as the health sector, where there is a priority to include training for barangay health nutritionists and workers, alongside enhancing skills for elderly care. The board’s establishment is expected to significantly aid labor market information by clearly identifying the skills and competencies required by industries.

Furthermore, Dillera added that the board would play a crucial role in improving competency standards and assessment tools, ensuring that the training provided aligns closely with industry needs and standards.
