Symposium Highlights Integral Role of Plants in Islamic Civilization.
Bandar Seri Begawan: The significant contributions of plants in fields such as agriculture, medicine, culture, and belief were showcased at the ‘Simposium Tumbuhan Dalam Tamadun Islam’ or ‘Symposium on Plants in Islamic Civilization’. This event, organized by Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah in partnership with the Botanical Research Centre, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, served as a platform for engagement and the exchange of knowledge regarding the intersection of plant science and Islamic civilization.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the symposium was inaugurated by Doctor Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin, the Permanent Secretary for Economy, Trade and Industry at the Ministry of Finance And Economy. The event also saw the presence of Doctor Hazri bin Haji Kifle, the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
The Herb Garden at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah features plants with significant ethno-botanical value, highlighting the traditional use of
herbs. The collaboration between Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and the Botanical Research Centre, UBD represents a crucial step in documenting and preserving this traditional knowledge for contemporary use.
