Sultan of Brunei Approves Renaming of Gurkha Reserve Unit.

Bandar Seri Begawan: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, has consented to the renaming of the Gurkha Reserve Unit (GRU) to the Gurkha Security Unit. His Majesty expressed the hope that all personnel would continue to instil core values with full commitment, ensuring the GRU’s relevance for future generations. This announcement was made during His Majesty’s titah at the GRU Golden Jubilee celebration on the morning of November 28th.

According to Radio Television Brunei, His Majesty began the address by expressing gratitude towards Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala for allowing the celebration of this significant milestone, the GRU Golden Jubilee. The Monarch also congratulated the unit for the illustrious parade, which demonstrated the personnel’s preparedness and high discipline. Over the past 50 years, the GRU has made substantial contributions to maintaining the peace a
nd prosperity that Brunei Darussalam enjoys today.
