Shear Line and Northeast Monsoon to Bring Rains Across the Philippines
MANILA: The Philippines is set to experience continued rainfall due to the influence of two distinct weather systems. A shear line will affect the eastern part of Southern Luzon and the Visayas, while the Northeast monsoon, also known as “amihan,” will impact the rest of Luzon.
According to Philippines News Agency, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) in their 4 a.m. advisory on Sunday, the shear line is expected to cause cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. This weather pattern will predominantly affect the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Quezon, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur. PAGASA issued a warning about the potential for flash floods or landslides in these areas due to moderate to occasionally heavy rains.
Meanwhile, the Northeast monsoon will contribute to partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, the Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and the rest of the Calabarzon region. The rest of the country, including Visayas and Mindanao, is expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
In terms of wind and coastal conditions, Luzon will experience moderate to strong winds from the northeast, leading to moderate to rough coastal waters. On the other hand, the Visayas and Mindanao regions will have light to moderate northeast winds, with coastal waters ranging from slight to moderate.
