Senator Advocates for Nuclear Plant in Pangasinan, Citing Long-term Energy Benefits

Labrador, Pangasinan – Senator Francis Tolentino on Friday championed the proposed Nuclear Power Program in Labrador, Pangasinan, emphasizing its potential to address high electricity costs and resolve controversies surrounding the use of nuclear energy in the Philippines.

According to Philippines News Agency, the establishment of the nuclear power plant will not only benefit the local residents of Pangasinan but also have a positive impact on the entire country by providing a long-term solution to the ongoing energy crisis and the burden of high electricity rates. He stated that nuclear power plants have been proven safe and can offer significant economic advantages.

Tolentino has been instrumental in supporting the Department of Science and Technology's efforts to locate nuclear materials in the waters off Labrador, which are crucial for the nuclear power initiative. He is also the author of Senate Bill No. 1194, which aims to establish a comprehensive nuclear regulatory framework, and Senate Bill No. 2545, also known as An Act Governing Civil Liabilities and Compensation Claims for Nuclear Damage.
