San Carlos City Completes PHP 96 Million Flood Control Projects Along Agno River

SAN CARLOS CITY, PANGASINAN — The Department of Public Works and Highways-Ilocos Region (DPWH-1) has announced the completion of two critical slope protection projects along the Agno River in San Carlos City, designed to safeguard the residents and properties of the villages of Bogaoan and Guelew.

According to Philippines News Agency, DPWH-1's information officer, the newly completed projects include a 355.47-meter structure in Barangay Bogaoan, costing approximately PHP 48.99 million, and a 287-meter structure in Barangay Guelew, with an approximate cost of PHP 47.78 million. Funded by this year's national budget, these initiatives aim to mitigate the adverse effects of heavy rainfall, typhoons, flooding, and potential landslides. Construction began on February 6 and was completed by April 24.

DPWH-Ilocos Director Ronnel Tan highlighted that the structures not only protect against environmental threats but also enhance the resilience of local infrastructure. The comprehensive construction included a structural concrete revetment supported by z-type sheet pile, gravel fill, reinforcing steel bar, formworks, a hydraulic gate, and a reinforced concrete pipe culvert to reduce landslide risks. The projects have been warmly welcomed by officials from the beneficiary villages, especially given the anticipated challenges associated with the La Niña phenomenon.
