‘Qalbun Salim’ Ceremony Highlights Inclusivity Efforts in Brunei.
Bandar Seri Begawan: In conjunction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2024, the Department of Community Development organized a “Qalbun Salim” Ceremony on the afternoon of December 2nd. The event took place at the Suri Seri Begawan Raja Pengiran Anak Damit Mosque in Kampung Manggis/Madang and was attended by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the ceremony featured a special talk titled “Menyantuni Golongan Orang Kelainan Upaya (OKU)” which focused on the societal attitudes towards persons with disabilities (OKU). The talk highlighted the challenges faced by the OKU community and addressed the perception of some individuals who view people with disabilities as burdens. The event aimed to show gratitude and appreciation for the contributions made by OKU individuals to community development.
The “Qalbun Salim” Ceremony served as a platform to foster understanding and inclusivity, un
derscoring the importance of recognizing the capabilities and achievements of persons with disabilities. The gathering emphasized the need for a supportive environment that empowers OKU individuals to actively participate in societal progress.
