Prevent the Risk of Diabetes Through Healthy Lifestyle Changes.

Bandar Seri Begawan: Controlling body weight and practising a healthy lifestyle can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes among children. Among the signs of diabetes is often feeling thirsty, tired, and underweight despite having a good appetite.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the signs of type 1 and 2 diabetes among children and adults are similar. Doctor Wee Chun Yen, a Specialist Pediatric Endocrinologist at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital, emphasized that certain lifestyle changes or interventions are important to help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. In Brunei Darussalam, the rate of Type 1 Diabetes is 4.9 per 100,000 children. The main factor contributing to the development of type 2 diabetes in children is being overweight. The latest data from the WHO indicates that 1 in 4 Bruneian children between the ages of 5 and 19 are obese, leading to an increase in the rate of type 2 diabetes.
