President Marcos Swears in Sonny Angara as New Education Secretary

MANILA — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. officially welcomed Juan Edgardo 'Sonny' Angara to his Cabinet as the new Education Secretary during a ceremony held at Malacañan Palace on Friday evening. This appointment marks a significant leadership change at the Department of Education (DepEd), with expectations set high for forthcoming reforms and improvements.

According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos expressed his confidence in Angara's capabilities shortly after administering the oath of office. "We are looking forward to many good things to come from his appointment. We have had some discussions before he took his oath to give ourselves a good idea of what we think needs to be done," Marcos stated, emphasizing his optimistic outlook for the Department of Education under Angara's leadership.

Angara, expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him, reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the educational sector in the Philippines. "I'm extremely grateful to our President for entrusting me with this important task to lead a very important department, to use the President's words. Mr. President, I know how much you value education, as much as every Filipino family does," he remarked. He also highlighted his eagerness to collaborate closely with the President to implement necessary reforms that would benefit young learners and future generations.

The transition comes after Vice President Sara Duterte, who previously held the position, resigned from the Cabinet post in June. Angara officially assumed leadership of the DepEd on Thursday, following a turnover ceremony with Duterte at the DepEd Complex in Pasig City.
