Philippine National Police Enhances Security Measures for School Reopening on August 5

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining heightened security for the reopening of schools on August 5, following disruptions caused by severe weather conditions.

According to Philippines News Agency, PNP spokesperson and information chief, the force has established numerous police assistance desks to address safety concerns and facilitate rapid response to incidents at educational institutions. This move comes in the wake of school openings being delayed from July 29 due to the effects of Super Typhoon Carina and monsoon rains. "The chief of PNP has mandated sustained police visibility, particularly around school premises, which is why we have set up these desks," Fajardo stated during a radio interview.

In addition to the assistance desks, the PNP will conduct foot and mobile patrols around campuses to deter crime and ensure a swift response to any potential incidents. Coordination with school officials is also being prioritized to discuss and implement comprehensive security measures effectively.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has also stepped up its efforts by deploying almost 5,000 officers near school zones and establishing 681 police assistance desks. These measures are part of a broader strategy to ensure the safety and security of students throughout the academic year, in collaboration with local government units.
