Philippine and US Air Forces Conduct ‘Iron Blade’ Integration Exercise

PAMPANGA — Over the weekend, the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and the United States Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) engaged in a bilateral air force integration exercise named ‘Iron Blade,’ involving fighter and transport aircraft across locations in Pampanga and Cebu. This exercise highlights the ongoing defense partnership between the Philippines and the US, reinforcing their commitment to regional security and stability.

According to Philippines News Agency, Chief of the PAF Public Affairs Office, ‘Iron Blade’ featured complex aerial maneuvers and expert exchanges aimed at boosting cooperation and enhancing the interoperability of both air forces. The exercise included formation flights between Basa Air Base in Pampanga and Brig. Gen. Benito Ebuen Air Base in Mactan, Cebu, involving two Philippine FA-50PH fighter aircraft, two US Air Force F-22s, and a US Air Force C-130 Hercules transport aircraft.

Castillo highlighted that the exercise also integrated a photo exercise to document and evaluate the tactical maneuvers, further improving the collaborative capabilities of the participating forces. Additionally, subject matter expert exchanges on flight operations and maintenance were conducted in Pampanga, while cargo handling techniques were discussed in Cebu.

‘Iron Blade’ is part of the PACAF’s broader redeployment activities following its involvement in the Pitch Black Exercise in Australia. The Philippines serves as a strategic stopover point for the US contingent, which consists of six F-22s and three C-130s, en route to Kadena Air Base in Japan.
