NUNS and UST Maintain Dominance in UAAP Boys’ Volleyball Tournament.
Manila: National University Nazareth School (NUNS) and University of Santo Tomas (UST) achieved significant victories on Saturday, strengthening their quests for the twice-to-beat semifinal incentive in the UAAP Season 87 boys’ volleyball tournament at Paco Arena.
According to Philippines News Agency, NUNS triumphed over Far Eastern University-Diliman with a straight-set victory of 25-21, 25-23, 26-24. Yuan Mendoza led the Bullpups with 15 attacks, while Herbert Miguel Egger contributed 12 points through eight attacks, three blocks, and one ace. Irilis Kasim and John Wayne Dionela each added eight points to the team’s score.
FEU’s efforts were spearheaded by Zedrick Dave Calimlim, who finished with 17 points from 13 attacks, two blocks, and two aces, including a crucial three-point streak that leveled the score at 21-all in the third quarter. Kenneth Maliwanag also contributed with 10 points from nine attacks, as the Baby Tamaraws dropped to fifth place with a 5-7 record.
On the other hand, UST dominated U
niversity of the Philippines Integrated School with a commanding 25-12, 25-9, 25-9 victory. John Paul Bautista led the UST squad with 11 points, including seven attacks, two blocks, and two aces. Paolo Medino and Erick Perjes added 10 and eight points, respectively. The Fighting Maroons remained winless after 12 matches, despite Marcos Ellis Bamba’s 10-point contribution.
In another match, University of the East secured a 25-15, 25-17, 25-15 win against De La Salle-Zobel, maintaining their position in second place with a 10-2 record. Lance Babon was instrumental for the Junior Warriors, scoring 16 points from 15 attacks and a block, while the Junior Archers fell to a 3-9 standing.
Additionally, Adamson University overcame Ateneo de Manila University with a decisive 25-10, 25-8, 25-17 victory. Jims Ducusin led the Baby Falcons with eight points from seven attacks and a block, improving their standing to 7-5. The Blue Eagles suffered their 11th loss, with only one win in the season.
