Nationwide Recycling Day Sees Significant Collection of Recyclable Materials

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN — The Nationwide Recycling Day Initiative, held on 30th June, proved to be a success with large quantities of recyclable materials collected across all districts. Organized by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation, JASTRe, and the Ministry of Development, the event coincided with Global Recycling Day 2024 and was part of the government’s efforts to enhance public awareness about recycling practices.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the initiative resulted in the collection of 789 kilograms of paper, over 106 kilograms of cardboard, more than 432 kilograms of plastic bottles, nearly 187 liters of used cooking oil, and 259 units of electronic waste. The event was structured to facilitate easy participation for the public, with designated recycling points in each district, including JASTRe offices in Anggerek for Brunei Muara, Belait, and Tutong districts, and Taman Muhibah in Bangar Town for Temburong District. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to introduce and promote accessible recycling services throughout the nation.
