Nationwide Initiatives Bolster Children’s Rights and Welfare.
Bandar Seri Begawan: Integrated efforts in various aspects are greatly appreciated and need to be continued to ensure the well-being of the children in the country continues to be cared for. Among the programmes that have been implemented and related to this year’s World Children’s Day theme are The Bootcamp Programme by the Department of Special Education for Students with Special Needs and awareness talks through the GINIS programme to schools in the country. In a message in conjunction with the World Children’s Day 2024 celebration, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports said that among the nation’s efforts to protect children’s rights is through the National Action Plan on the Welfare of Children, under the ‘Majlis Kebangsaan Isu Sosial’.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad stated that this Action Plan maps out strategies and the steps needed to achieve goals or objectives that ensure the well-being and welfare of children continue to
be cared for with the cooperation and integrated commitment of all relevant agencies through a whole of nation approach. In addition, various committees and platforms which includes members from various government and non-government sectors also exists to discuss children’s social issues; and various services are also provided. Apart from that, Yang Berhormat said the Department of Community Development has also increased efforts in strengthening Standard Operational Procedures, SOP by improving Child Care Centre Guidelines to ensure childcare centers provide quality child care and to ensure that children’s safety remains guaranteed. Furthermore, efforts continue to be implemented to strengthen capacity building and support for child welfare enforcement agency workers. The theme for this year’s World Children’s Day celebration is “For every child, every right.”
