Narcotics Control Bureau Dismantles Drug Trafficking Syndicate in ‘Operasi Canon’.
Bandar seri begawan: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) successfully executed ‘Operasi Canon’ from October 2nd to 10th, targeting a drug trafficking syndicate orchestrated by a 48-year-old local citizen. In this operation, 18 individuals, including 15 locals and three foreigners, were apprehended for their alleged involvement in controlled drug trafficking activities. Two individuals are under investigation under the Misuse of Drugs Act, Chapter 27, for possession of controlled drugs with the intent to distribute. One suspect is being investigated for possessing 1,300.29 grams of Syabu, which, if proven, could result in a death sentence by hanging.
According to Radio Television Brunei, ‘Operasi Canon’ has led to the seizure of 1,363.38 grams of Syabu, valued at over $190,000 in the local market and sufficient to support at least 13,500 drug addicts. Additionally, authorities confiscated cash totaling $1,037, foreign currency suspected to be drug trafficking proceeds, drug paraphernalia, and tools believed to
be used for drug packaging, such as digital scales, scissors, and small packets.
Investigations revealed that the syndicate sourced drugs from neighboring countries and smuggled them in by concealing them in spare tires. These drugs were then divided for distribution in the local market.
