Muslims Urged to Uphold Integrity and Avoid Abuse of Power in Work

In a recent Friday sermon, Muslims were reminded of the importance of ensuring their work aligns with Islamic principles and national laws. The sermon, titled 'Do Not Betray the Trust You Are Accountable For,' stressed the significance of adhering to these guidelines across all sectors, be it in public or private roles, regardless of the position held. The sermon also emphasized the responsibility of citizens in contributing to the community's welfare and the country's well-being.

According to Radio Television Brunei, The Imam or Prayer Leader highlighted that in the public service sector, it's crucial to uphold a zero-tolerance policy against the abuse of power, which is not only prohibited in Islam but also a criminal offence legally. The sermon outlined various offences related to the misuse of power, including corruption and breach of trust, labeling those who engage in such acts as selfish and their actions as cruel. The misuse of power by civil servants can erode public trust and have a negative impact on the country, as these individuals are expected to use their authority and trust to carry out their duties fairly and not for personal gain.
