MinDA and University of the Philippines Forge Partnership for Mindanao Development

DAVAO CITY - The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and the University of the Philippines (UP) have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to foster development and advance policy research initiatives across Mindanao. This collaboration aims to propel the island's peace and development objectives by leveraging academic resources and research capabilities.

According to Philippines News Agency, the partnership with UP will focus on logistical support, scientific research, and the digitalization of data to enhance development efforts in Mindanao. "They have all the bright minds there," said Acosta, highlighting the critical role of academic expertise in governmental operations and policy making, particularly in data consolidation which is essential for informed decision-making and effective governance.

The MinDA-UP agreement is structured to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation through various channels, including policy research, project advisory, management, and outreach programs, all aimed at supporting sustainable development in the region. Furthermore, the MOU is set to bolster institutional support for Mindanao-wide platforms that encourage multi-sectoral convergence, such as the Mindanao Studies Consortium Foundation Inc. (MSCFI) and the Mindanao Knowledge Center (MKC).

UP President Lawyer Angelo Jimenez emphasized the commitment to a collaborative research agenda focusing on governance, conflict mitigation, environmental studies, and socio-economic development projects in Mindanao. He also noted plans for joint capacity-building activities, information exchanges, and other initiatives aimed at harnessing the university's comprehensive resources—technical, scientific, and academic—to contribute to Mindanao's overall success.
