Local Man Fined for Possession of Contraband Cigarettes.

Kuala Belait: A local man was fined $5,000 or sentenced to 5 months imprisonment in default by the Kuala Belait Magistrate’s Court. MOHAMAD YUSDI SOFIEDON BIN MOHAMAD YUSOF, aged 49, was found guilty of possessing contraband cigarettes.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the offence was committed under the Excise Order 2006. The accused was found in possession of 4 cartons and 18 sticks of cigarettes of various brands. The discovery was made by the Customs Preventive Officers from the Belait District Branch Operation Unit, Law Enforcement Division, Royal Customs and Excise Department. The arrest took place at Panaga Electrical Sub-Station in Seria.

All the seized contraband cigarettes have been slated for destruction, as per the procedures outlined by the authorities.
