Lawrence Wong Takes Office as Singapore’s Prime Minister

Singapore - Lawrence Wong was officially sworn in as the Prime Minister of Singapore on Wednesday, marking the first leadership transition in the country in two decades. The oath of office was administered by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

According to Philippines News Agency, Wong, at 51, succeeds Lee Hsien Loong, who will now serve as a senior minister. In his new role, Wong has decided to retain his previous Cabinet and continue serving as finance minister. At a press conference on Monday, he expressed his intention to maintain stability within his administration by keeping ministers in their current positions to avoid disruptions. Wong emphasized the importance of continuity to ensure the effectiveness of recently introduced government programs. As the fourth prime minister since Singapore's independence in 1965, he is supported by Deputy Prime Ministers Heng Swee Keat and Gan Kim Yong.
