Launching of GEM Report for Southeast Asia

Students must learn how to use technology not just for passive consumption but for active problem-solving, creativity and collaboration. To prepare the next generation for a digital future, the education systems must go beyond simply introducing digital tools in the classroom.

The Permanent Secretary for Core Education at the Ministry of Education underlined the matter during the Launching of the 2023 Global Education Monitoring, GEM Report for Southeast Asia. Doctor Dayang Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin said the report served as a vital guide in strengthening the policies and programmes in Southeast Asian region. The GEM report produced by UNESCO in collaboration with Seameo examined how technology is utilised in education across Southeast Asian countries. Organised by SEAMEO VOCTECH, the event in conjunction with a Sharing Session on Inclusive Technical and Vocational Education and Training, TVET for a Green and Digital Future, was part of SEAMEO VOCTECH’s 35th Governing Board Meeting.
