Las Piñas Voters Approve Ordinance to Redefine Barangay Boundaries

LAS PIÑAS CITY — Residents of Las Piñas City have voted in favor of an ordinance that sets new boundaries for the city’s 20 barangays, according to the results of a plebiscite held on Saturday.

According to Philippines News Agency, City Ordinance No. 1941-23, which aims to align barangay boundaries with the cadastral survey completed in 2015 by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), received substantial support. The Certificate of Canvass (COC) of the Las Piñas plebiscite showed that 41,493 registered voters voted ‘yes’ to approve the ordinance, while 19,498 voted ‘no’.

The plebiscite, which was held from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. across 30 voting centers—14 in District 1 and 16 in District 2—saw a turnout of just 20 percent of the total 308,059 registered voters. Despite the low turnout, the results were decisive enough for the City Plebiscite Board of Canvassers to declare the ordinance ratified, formally adjusting the territorial boundaries of the barangays to match the DENR’s cadastral survey.

Comelec chief George Garcia confirmed the ordinance’s effectiveness following the plebiscite. “The ordinance that delineates 20 barangays is now effective,” he stated, marking a resolution to the longstanding issue of overlapping village boundaries.

Las Piñas election officer Datumama Macainding noted that the plebiscite was essential to resolve disputes among villages over their boundaries, aiming to bring clarity and administrative efficiency to the local governance structure.
