Fire in Rohingya Camp in Bangladesh Displaces Over a Thousand

Cox’s Bazar – A significant fire on Saturday devastated Rohingya Camp No. 13 in Ukhiya, leaving 1,200 individuals without shelter. The blaze, which consumed 175 shelters, 40 shops, a learning center, and an Islamic school, was brought under control by local fire services.

According to Philippines News Agency, who spoke to Anadolu, the fire was eventually extinguished, though the initial suspicion points towards arson. Bangladesh Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammed Mizanur Rahman noted the ongoing power struggles among Rohingya factions in the camps could be linked to such incidents. The investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire. Rahman also highlighted the rapid spread of the fire due to overcrowded conditions and the materials used in constructing the shelters.
