Fire Devastates 81 Families in Bacolod City
BACOLOD CITY — A devastating fire early Wednesday morning in Purok Kagaykay, Barangay 2, Bacolod City, left at least 81 families without homes.
According to Philippines News Agency, this marks the second fire incident within five months in the same coastal community, with a previous event in February destroying 13 homes.
The fire, which started in the house of Monaliza Magbanua shortly after 3 a.m., escalated quickly, damaging 73 houses completely and partially damaging eight others. The BFP reported that property damages were estimated at PHP1.4 million. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as the fire reached a second alarm before being extinguished within an hour. Most of the displaced residents are currently sheltered in the barangay multi-purpose hall, where they received immediate aid including food packs, hygiene kits, and water supplies. This area has experienced significant fire incidents before, with more than 200 houses affected in 2019 and around 50 in 2016.
