Erika Dy Appointed as New Executive Director of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas
MANILA: The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has named Erika Dy as its new executive director, following her role as deputy event director for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dy will oversee the strategic planning and implementation of the national basketball association’s programs. This appointment comes as part of FIBA’s ongoing efforts to expand basketball in the Philippines. Panlilio expressed enthusiasm about working with Dy, acknowledging her contributions during the FIBA Basketball World Cup and her diverse experience in basketball and sports management.
Erika Dy’s background includes serving as the Licensing Committee chair and managing director in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. She is a former player for Ateneo de Manila, where she also held positions as the head coach of the women’s basketball team and assistant athletic director. Dy, who earned a Master’s Degree in Sports Management from Columbia University, is also a licensed attorney in California. In October of the previous year, she was appointed chair of the FIBA Legal Commission.
Upon signing her contract, Dy expressed her gratitude and excitement about the opportunity to contribute to the sport that has been a significant part of her life. She commended the SBP for its achievements since its inception under chairman emeritus Manny V. Pangilinan and expressed eagerness to join the federation during a crucial phase in its development.
Dy is already collaborating with key figures in the SBP, including Head of Coaches’ Academy Jong Uichico, Grassroots Program director Norman Black, 3×3 Program director Eric Altamirano, and Institutional Support Director Anton Gonzales, to further the growth and success of basketball in the Philippines.
