Effectiveness of National Vaccination Programme

The Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy also shared the latest findings on the COVID-19 situation in Brunei Darussalam based on the research and evaluation conducted by the COVID-19 Steering Committee.

Continuous epidemiological monitoring has shown that the number of cases in Categories 4 and 5 during this third wave are lower than the first and second waves whereby during the first wave, the statistic of cases in Categories 4 and 5 was 450 people for every 10,000 cases, while in the second wave, it was 60 people for every 10,000 cases. Compared to this third wave which is 6 cases per 10,000 people.

  • This indicates the effectiveness of the National Vaccination Programme which has succeeded in significantly reducing the number of cases severely affected by COVID-19.
  • Scientific findings have shown that two doses of vaccines can provide good protection against the adverse effects of COVID-19, however three doses of vaccines have been found to provide high and additional protection against the negative effects.
  • Therefore, members of the public, especially the elderly and those with chronic diseases are advised to get the third COVID-19 vaccine as soon as they are eligible to receive it.

About 75 to 80 per cent of the COVID-19 cases reported in the country at present are the result of ART performed at home. Members of the public are reminded to report their ART results and update their daily health status in the BruHealth app to help the Government monitor the COVID-19 situation in the country more effectively. It will also be able to help the Government to control the pandemic better.
