Davao City Considers Shifting School Year Start from August to June
DAVAO CITY – Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Z. Duterte announced on Monday that the Department of Education (DepEd) is actively engaging in consultations to potentially shift the school year opening from August back to June.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DepEd has already completed its initial round of consultations regarding the change to the school calendar. Further discussions with regional offices and stakeholders are planned, as she disclosed during her appearance as the guest of honor at the fourth founding anniversary of the City College of Davao. These consultations are essential for gathering comprehensive feedback to inform the decision-making process for the school calendar.
Duterte emphasized her role in this process as being impartial, refraining from influencing the consultations with personal opinions or judgments. “We will lose the non-biased decision-making in our work. We will base it on the suggestion of the experts, research and surveys, and feedback from the students, employees, and stakeholders,” she stated, highlighting the importance of relying on expert advice and extensive feedback to guide any potential adjustments to the academic calendar.
