Courtesy Calls and Bilateral Meetings
Towards strengthening the diplomatic relations and enhancing the parliament role in tackling regional challenges through dialogue and close cooperation between the ASEAN countries, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, the Speaker of the Legislative Council held separate courtesy calls and bilateral meetings with Yang Berhormat Tan Sri Dato’ Doctor Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat of Malaysia; His Excellency Seah Kian Peng, Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore and His Excellency Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, President of the House of the Representatives of Thailand, at the AIPA’s 45th General Assembly.
In a meeting with the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat of Malaysia, the Speaker of the Legislative Council conveyed his congratulations on his appointment as President of AIPA and Malaysia as the Host of the AIPA General Assembly for 2025. Brunei Darussalam’s readiness to provide full support and touch the development cooperation of the young generation through initiatives such as the Youth Parliament Programme and the Student Exchange Programme. The two sides also discussed the exchange of best practices in the improvement of Parliament.
While during the courtesy call with the Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore and President of the House of the Representatives of Thailand, they also discussed efforts to strengthen regional connectivity and collaboration between the parliaments of ASEAN countries. The discussion also emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen diplomatic relations, with a focus on sustainable development, economic cooperation, and social initiatives that can bring benefits to the people of the region.
Also joining the delegation were Doctor Dayang Hajah Huraini binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hurairah, Clerk to the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council and Clerk to
the Legislative Council, AND several members of the Legislative Council.
