Commemoration Ceremony of the 20th Indian Ocean Tsunami and ASEAN Day for Disaster Management


?Establishing early warning systems and strengthening infrastructure are important as mitigation measures to face future natural disasters. Speaking at the Commemoration Ceremony of the 20th Indian Ocean Tsunami and ASEAN Day for Disaster Management 2024, the Minister of Home Affairs also stressed on strengthening regional cooperation, particularly in ensuring those affected by disasters receive the necessary support to rebuild their lives.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman as Chair of the 12th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management, AMMDM this year, also shared that through the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response, AADMER and the establishment of the AHA Centre, a more effective systems for disaster response, recovery, and resilience have been developed. The ceremony was held at Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas in the capital, 25th October morning.

The event aimed to reflect on the devastating Tsunami that claimed the lives of more than 230
,000 people across 14 countries. Also held was a tree planting ceremony.
