China Refutes Allegations of Funding Destabilization Efforts in the Philippines
MANILA: Amidst rising speculations, China has categorically denied any involvement in funding destabilization activities in the Philippines. This statement comes in response to concerns over social media attacks against Philippine government officials critical of China’s actions in the West Philippine Sea.
According to Philippines News Agency, there has been a noticeable pattern of online harassment targeting him and other officials for their stance on China’s activities in the disputed waters. Ejercito raised suspicions that these coordinated attacks could be part of a broader destabilization plan, possibly backed by Chinese interests. He cited intelligence reports suggesting China’s involvement in these operations.
In a formal statement released on Wednesday, the Chinese Embassy in Manila emphasized China’s longstanding principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations. The Embassy firmly denied the allegations of engaging Filipinos to undermine Philippine stability, questioning the credibility and motives behind such intelligence reports. It highlighted the need for clarity and answers regarding these serious accusations.
Furthermore, the Embassy addressed the ongoing maritime disputes in the South China Sea. It reiterated China’s willingness to engage in dialogue and consultation with Manila to manage maritime differences. The statement underscored China’s openness for communication and the continuous availability of dialogue and contact channels.
The Embassy urged the Philippine government to heed rational voices and collaborate with China in honoring the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries on resolving disputes through dialogue. The last official discussion between Manila and Beijing regarding the West Philippine Sea occurred following the incidents involving the Chinese Coast Guard in Bajo de Masinloc and Ayungin Shoal on December 9 and 10.
This year, the Philippines has lodged 65 diplomatic protests against Chinese activities in the West Philippine Sea, highlighting the ongoing tensions in the region.
