Brunei Darussalam’s Commitment to a Drug-Free Society Highlighted in Mufti’s Talk.
Bandar Seri Begawan: In a recent talk, Brunei Darussalam was reaffirmed as a leader in the global initiative to remain free from cigarettes and alcoholic beverages. Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz Bin Juned, the State Mufti, emphasized the need for a united front in tackling the use and distribution of narcotics worldwide to ensure universal security.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the State Mufti delivered his message during a talk titled ‘Penghayatan Islam Bagi Menangani Isu Dadah Di Negara Brunei Darussalam’ or ‘Internalising Islam to Address the Issue of Drugs in Brunei Darussalam’. He highlighted that the consumption of narcotics, illegal drugs, and alcoholic beverages often leads to criminal activities such as theft, burglary, robbery, and even murder. The Mufti also pointed out that immoral acts like adultery, rape, and abuse are frequently linked to the consumption of these substances, citing a saying from Rasulullah Shallallahu
‘Alaihi Wasallam to avoid alcohol as it is the “mother of all evil.”
The event, held at the Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, was organized by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in cooperation with the State Mufti Department and the Prime Minister’s Office. The function coincided with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Celebration and included notable attendees such as Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Zalani bin Haji Ismail, Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau.
