Darussalam: Brunei Darussalam has witnessed a steady increase in the number of inbound and outbound ship traffic into the country last year. It shows that the transport industry sector, especially shipping, is one of the beneficiaries in the development of downstream industries and export-oriented production activities. The Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, as Chairman of Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD), stated the matter at the Opening Ceremony of Brunei Darussalam Maritime Week.

According to Radio Television Brunei, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha highlighted that, aligned with the need for improved port and maritime operations and harnessing the use of technology, MPABD has embarked on the Maritime Single Window Project. This initiative is expected to improve cargo management and enhance the overall efficiency, sustainability, and competitiveness of the country’s maritime sector. In terms of safety, Yang Berhormat
noted that the MPABD has recently established the Maritime Emergency Response Centre (MERC).

The event, themed ‘Technological Innovations and Sustainable Maritime Development,’ aligns with this year’s World Maritime Day theme, ‘Navigating the Future: Safety First.’ The gathering, held at Banquet Hall, Bridex in Jerudong, featured exhibitions by 35 exhibitors showcasing the latest developments and innovations in the maritime industry.
