Brunei Book Festival 2024 Aims to Elevate Cultural Heritage on International Stage.
Bandar seri begawan: In an era of rapidly developing and open world, it is important to open spaces for cultural exchanges between countries to elevate Brunei’s heritage and treasures to the world stage. According to Radio Television Brunei, the Brunei Book Festival is not only to introduce the cultural heritage but also to learn and appreciate arts and culture from various backgrounds. Speaking at the Opening of the Brunei Book Festival 2024, 2nd November morning, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, stressed that the Brunei Book Festival needs to strengthen its role as an interaction and business hub as the driving force of the regional and international book publishing industry, a platform for the preservation of knowledge, literacy and language as well as supporting the development of the creative arts industry.
The Minister also said that by taking advantage of the existing improvement spaces, the Brunei Book Festival will be a
ble to grow and reach a stage on par with international book festivals in other countries, not only limited to book exhibitions and sales but covering various activities that stimulate an interest in reading, generating creativity and showing the image and cultural heritage of the country, also as a generator of economy and intellectual development.
The ceremony ran concurrently with the launching of Budaya BN, a new service introduced by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. BN Culture functions as a central application that places information and services under the Culture Sector, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. 33 new books including general, literary and children genres were launched and the presentation of the Best Selling Book Prize 2023 was also held.
