BOC seizes P2.5-M marijuana declared as denim jeans

The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Clark on Wednesday said it confiscated over PHP2 million worth of ‘kush’ or high-grade marijuana in a shipment declared as denim jeans. Under the leadership of district collector Lawyer Elvira Cruz, the BOC-Port of Clark said in a statement that it uncovered 1,514 grams of kush marijuana worth PHP2.498 million through its border security measures. The examination and seizure were conducted last May 15. During the inspection, “three jog-sealed bags containing dried leaves and fruiting tops” were discovered. Meanwhile, the BOC-Port of Clark vowed to continue its intensified efforts against illegal drug smuggling. ‘The Port of Clark is firm with its anti-illegal drugs campaign. Through the vigilance of our personnel and the constant support of PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency), we were able to stop various drug smuggling attempts as evidenced by the port’s series of apprehensions,” Cruz said. To date, the agency said it issued a warrant of seizure and detention against the shipment for violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act with the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
