Avoid and Prevent Deviant Teachings.

Bandar Seri Begawan: The Ministry of Religious Affairs, through the Syariah Affairs Department, has issued a reminder to the public to remain vigilant against any teachings or groups that may deviate from the principles of Islam and Syara’. This alert comes in the wake of a case in a neighboring country where a business entity was linked to an organization deemed deviant by a fatwa.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the matter has garnered serious attention from local authorities. As a precaution, the public is advised to be aware of certain characteristics that may indicate deviant teachings. These include fanaticism and obsession with certain individuals, extreme faith, misinterpretation of Islamic laws, neglecting familial responsibilities while focusing on a specific group, and soliciting financial contributions without clear or suspicious purposes.

It is an offense under the Syariah Penal Code Order for any individual to teach or explain matters pertaining to Islam or to engage in practices that co
ntravene Syara’. Convictions can result in a fine of up to 20,000 dollars, five years of imprisonment, or both.

Suspicious activities can be reported to the Akidah Control and Research Unit, Syariah Affairs Department at 833 0080.
