$800 Million International Container Terminal Planned for Batangas

BATANGAS, Philippines — A new international container terminal is slated for development in Batangas, with an anticipated completion date by the end of 2027. This project represents a significant investment aimed at bolstering the region's role in global trade.

According to Philippines News Agency, Executive Vice President of International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI), the terminal is expected to catalyze economic benefits for Southern Luzon and enhance the country's marine handling capacities, particularly in support of renewable energy initiatives. Preliminary design and engineering studies have commenced, with construction scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2025.

Gonzalez highlighted the strategic importance of the location, situated 120 kilometers south of Manila and nine kilometers west of Batangas City. The Bauan facility is poised to become a key international gateway for the Calabarzon area's shipping needs. He noted that the Bauan-San Pascual-Batangas-STAR tollway diversion road and other expressway projects linking Cavite to Bauan have significantly improved access to the site.

The project, with an estimated cost of US$800 million, is part of ICTSI's broader efforts to expand its global footprint. The company is recognized as the Philippines' largest multinational logistics and port operations firm, with facilities across Asia Pacific, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
