5th Biennial Scientific Meeting

With the increasing longevity and overall health of the population, achieving pain-free and independent mobility is essential. Total joint replacements for the hip and knee are becoming necessities rather than uncommon procedures. The incidence of knee replacements in the country has progressively risen, from five procedures in 2000 to 74 knee replacements performed annually today. The Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary for Professional at the Ministry of Health shared this at the opening ceremony of the 5th Biennial Scientific Meeting. It was held at The Empire Brunei, 27th October morning.

Doctor Hajah Rafidah Binti Haji Gharif further stated that with ongoing advancements in design and function, the indications for these procedures are now extended to younger patients suffering from conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. While these developments provide solutions, they also introduce additional challenges in orthopaedic management, including well-known complications associated with such procedures and th
e financial implications involved. The event included a keynote lecture on Secondary Fracture Prevention and Role of Fracture Fragility Network by a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Beacon Hospital, Malaysia.
