11th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus Concludes in Vientiane.
Vientiane: The 11th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus, known as ADMM-Plus, was successfully held at the National Convention Centre in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic. This significant meeting was attended by defence ministers and representatives from the ADMM-Plus countries, the ASEAN Secretariat, and Timor Leste as an observer of the ADMM, ADMM-Plus.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the delegation from Brunei Darussalam was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Defence. His Excellency Haji Roslan bin Haji Yacub, Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary of Brunei Darussalam to Lao PDR, was also in attendance.
The 11th ADMM-Plus reviewed a report from the ASEAN Secretariat on recent developments within ASEAN. The ministers and representatives engaged in discussions on the regional and international security environment, reaffirming thei
r dedication to peace and stability. They also acknowledged ASEAN’s vital role in promoting solidarity, practical cooperation, and multilateralism.
A significant outcome of the meeting was the adoption of the Joint Statement by the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus on Resilience to Climate-related and Other Natural Disasters. This includes initiatives for best practices exchange and capacity building.
Additionally, the meeting featured the Commemorative Ceremony of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations and the 35th Anniversary of ASEAN-Republic of Korea Dialogue Relations.
The meeting concluded with a handing over ceremony of the ADMM Chairmanship from Lao PDR to Malaysia. Malaysia will take on the chairmanship role for ADMM and its related meetings in 2025, under the theme ‘ASEAN Unity for Security and Prosperity’.
